PERCUSSION FOWLER. Cal. 62. NSN. 40" overall, 24" barrel, purchased from Douglas Vernon, Custer SD most likely based on 1968 correspondence. Mr. Berenson bought many Indian items from Vernon who traded with Native Americans on Standing Rock Reservation according to his letters. This gun was rawhide wrapped before it was tacked. It has as good a look as you can find for Indian Wars era tacked Indian rifle. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: correspondence from Douglas Vernon and Mr. Berenson (Aug. 8, 1968) concerning items. Vernon states they came from Henry Wolf-Guts at Wakpala SD, Standing Rock Reservation. "This bunch are the Hunkpapa Sioux, Chief Gall's bunch". CONDITION: fair to good overall, glued break under back action lock, trigger bow is broken and had old repair. This gun saw hard long use and probably in same family for generations. Not functioning, hammer screw replaced, crusty dirty smooth bore. PROVENANCE: Dave Berenson estate collection 1968. (01-29682/JS). ANTIQUE. $2,000-3,000.
