^Lot 1029 U.S. MILITARY MANN ACCURACY TEST DEVICE WITH SMITH

CORONA 03A3 ACTION. Cal. 30-06. S# 4819198. Bbl. 24" GR Douglas made. No sights present. These accuracy test devices were named for famed ballistics experimenter Dr. Franklin W. Mann & used his system of a massive bbl. fitted w/ concentric rings to slide in a "V" rest in order to test the accuracy of ammunition. These bbls. & devices were used in both Army ordnance & civilian ammunition plants including Frankford & Springfield Arsenals & Winchester Repeating Arms dealing with government contract ammunition production. Information on these unique devices may be found in "The Springfield 1903 Rifles" by Brophy. This example is built off a Smith Corona 03A3 receiver. Bbl. marked "RIFLE ACCURACY / CAL .30 D7692088" in electropencil. Underside of bbl. has GR Douglas marking with serial "0000132". Action has parkerized finish. Walnut stock. CONDITION: stock has arsenal rework appearance with scattered finish loss, dings & handling wear. Bbl. shows scattered light oxidation & usage marks. Parkerized parts retain 93% finish with some handling marks & edge wear. Action functions properly when hand cycled. Bright near excellent bore.
