Lot 5474 19th C SPANISH RAPIER.

Straight 31.5" double sided thin tapering lenticular blade with engraved with a royal crown over 'VIVA EL REY DE ESPANA" or long live the King of Spain with further decorations and a worn maker mark extending down the blade to the double downward hooked quillon with bulbous pointed finials. Symmetrical pair of padded shell counter guards. Leather wrapped grip with missing wire. Beaded knuckle bow. Drum shaped pommel with a peened pin fastening the hilt. CONDITION: The blade has a dark patina with a slightly blunted tip and a few edge dings. The engraving is mostly intact with a wear to the gold gilt filler and makers mark. Hilt has a mottled dark patina with some mild cup denting. Grip leather is worn with crazing. PROVENANCE: Estate Collection of Nicholas Apergis (02-24692/ZAL) $700-1000
