KENTUCKY RIFLE BY CONTEMPORARY MAKER D. PRICE. Cal. 50. This stunning custom full stock is made with a 38" swamped octagon bbl that begins with a silver wire band at the muzzle. The front sight is a dovetailed silver blade that has been painted red with a white dab. The is a dovetailed V notch with a tuft of foliage engraved on each flank. The maker signed the bbl "D. PRICE 1992" on the top flat. The breech & bbl tang have double silver wire bands with a simple line scroll & star accent engraving. The screws are embellished with rosette engravings. The lock is decorated with a simple leaf & chip pattern. The stock is expertly crafted from a piece of striped maple with detailed relief cut foliate carved scrolls that tastefully entwine with fine silver wire tendrils. An silver scalloped fan cheekpiece inlay is bordered with more fine silver wire and engraved with an eclipse motif with fine zig-zag borders. The wrist has small flares of relief carved scroll with entwined silver wire tendrils that finish with a flattened foliate leaf and silver oval thumbplate with "WC" initials in a script font. The side plate and lock sit atop a raised table that extends forward with relief carved batwing extensions. The bbl is held in place with 3 silver pins with silver escutcheons that are engraved with a zig-zag border and sunburst flare accents. A pieced floral motif 4-piece silver patch box is engraved with a simple floral scroll with web accented corners. The cover release is located on the silver toeline 5 1/4" toeline plate that terminates with a flame tip finial and engraved with simple line & chip borders. The silver trigger guard is engraved with a flower panel on the bow with simple line & chip borders. The silver tipped ramrod is held in place with 2 faceted ferrules. CONDITION: Overall very fine. The metal shows only a few minor handlng marks. The bbl has a bit of flaking varnish that was added to the bbl to protect the finish. The stock is very fine. (01-29197/ZAL) ANTIQUE $3000-5000
