Lot 5268 VRARE IDENTIFIED CIVIL WAR RUBBERIZED RAIN PANTS.

These exceptionally rare survivors of the Civil War era are made from rubberized cloth with an 8 1/2" strap at the top. The pant covers themselves are separate for each leg and measure approx. 20 1/2" in length. The exterior has a rubberized coating and the interior is a tan cotton. Pant covers like this were sometimes worn by officers to protect their fine uniforms. Occasionally, rubberized pant covers could be found on naval ships to be worn as foul weather gear. These pant covers appear to be unissued, and one bears the name on the inside top "Capt. Marvin V Allen". UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: a large folder bearing the service records of Captain Martin V Allen of the 105th Illinois Infantry. CONDITION: the pant covers appear unissued, but do show wear from years of storage. There is some minor finish loss, but no notable damage. (02-27176/BF). NON-GUN. $1,500-2,000.
