Cal. 58. NSN. Bbl 40" with rifled bore. Two folding leaf rear sight with front sight doubling as the bayonet lug. Bbl. markings include "VP" on the left flat with partially visible date on the top flat. Lock has beveled hammer shank. Date of 1863 behind the hammer with eagle forward of the hammer followed by "U. S. / SPRINGFIELD". Walnut stock is held by 3 bands without retaining springs. Tulip tipped ramrod. Total 273,265 mfg. in 1863. CONDITION: metal has faded to gray with general light pitting. Original stock finish has 2 clear cartouches on left ear showing scattered marks & small dents. Sound lock. Lightly pitted bore. (01-29396/DS). ANTIQUE. $900-1,500.
