Cal. 58. Approx 75,000 1861 Special Muskets were produced by Colt from 1861-65 with many supplied for state contracts. It is fitted with an "1864" dated 40" bbl with "V/P/Eagle" proofs and "steel" on the left flat face. The bbl is held by 3 split ring iron bbl bands and has a iron block blade front sight and blued flip up rear sight. The lock is dated "1864" behind the hammer & "U.S./COLT'S PT F/A/ MFG. CO. / HARTFORD CT. " is marked foreward of the hammer. The oil finished walnut stock is marked with 2 boxed cartouches opposite of the lock "AWM" & "FJ". "EMW" is stamped on the top of the comb just forward of the "US" marked steel buttplate. CONDITION: Overall very fine. The metal has been lightly cleaned and remains in good in the white condition with nice crisp markings. The stock remains in nice untouched condition with good crisp cartouches and a few scattered dents and handling marks. Decent bore with some patches of pitting and good rifling.
