Lot 4350 WELLS FARGO MARKED S&W 2ND MODEL SCHOFIELD

REVOLVER.Cal 45 Schofield. S# 4418. Bbl. 5". Round blade front sight. V-notch fixed rear sight. Well's Fargo issued Schofield Revolver. These guns were ex-US army revolvers that had their bbls. cut down to about 5" & Well's Fargo markings applied. Right side of bbl. has Well's Fargo added serial & neatly scrubbed Well's Fargo property markings that do not affect the Schofield's Patent markings. Underside of grip has "US" inspector's marking. Period white colored grips with "W.F &CO's EXPRESS" relief engraving on right panel. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: factory letter that states this revolver was originally shipped to Springfield Armory in 1876 in military config, a hardwood display case & a previous auction sale listing for this exact revolver. CONDITION: grips show some natural checks that give them character added stain on Well's Fargo markings, handling marks & age related wear. Metal is mostly a gray patina with one replacement latch screw that retains a high degree of fire blue, scattered oxidation staining, some pitting mostly on cyl & handling marks. Action functions properly when hand cycled but is slightly under time & bbl. to frame fit displays some vertical play. Bore shows moderate oxidation & pitting along its length but strong rifling. (01-29810/MJC). ANTIQUE. $3000-4000.
