Cal. 32-40. S# 54282. Mfg. 1899. This example is fitted with a standard length 26" octagon bbl with a dovetailed Winchester express front sight & empty dovetail in the rear sight position. It has the early style "MANUFACTURED BY THE- / -WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN CONN. U.S.A.-" bbl address & "32-40" caliber marking on the top flat. Full magazine. The straight grip frame has the early "MODEL 1894 / -WINCHESTER- / PAT. AUG 21. 1894" upper tang marking. Missing the tang screw that would hold the forward portion of a Lyman tang sight. Straight grain smooth walnut stock set with smooth steel crescent buttplate. CONDITION: overall fair. The rifle's metal is void of finish with a mottled brown oxidized patina with edge wear and light scratches. Sanded and refinished stock set with some bubbling to the added varnish. The forearm has some minor edge chips and a few heavy dents/gouges. The butt has some minor edge chips and a tight small crack at the upper tang. Dark bore with good rifling and pitting. (26-2789/ZAL). CURIO. $800-1,200.
