RIFLE. Cal 44 W.C.F. S# 562511. Smoothbore. measures .425 at muzzle. Factory smooth bore Winchesters are an extreme rarity across all models, unfortunately this rifle was manufactured in a time period where no records are available. Bbl. 24" round with shotgun style brass bead front sight and blank installed in rear. Blued bbl, full length mag tube and receiver. Case hardened lever and hammer. Smooth straight grain walnut forend and straight stock with crescent steel buttplate. CONDITION: bbl and mag tube retain 85% original blue with light thinning, spot of prior cleaned oxidation measuring 1"x1 1/2" on right side of bbl approximately 6" from muzzle. Receiver blue has flaked to 35%; balance is grey and brown patina. It is quite common for Winchesters of this time frame to exhibit more flaking in receiver area due to the high nickel content during this manufacturing time frame. Lever shows strong original case colors at sides turning grey at bottom with scattered spots of cleaned oxidation. Lightly worn original wood shows numerous scattered light handling marks, dings, scratches and impressions. very good bore, is generally bright and shows only a few minor and lightly scattered spots of light pitting.
