RIFLE. Cal. 44-40. S# 116617. Mfg. 1883. It is fitted with a 26" oct. bbl with dovetailed German silver sporting front sight and semi-buckhorn rear sight (missing elevator). It has the early 2-line bbl address "WINCHESTERS-REPEATING-ARMS. NEW HAVEN. CT. / KINGS-IMPROVEMENT-PATENTED- MARCH 29, 1866. OCTOBER 16, 1860.". The dust cover is of the serrated edge type with integral guide rail. The tang is marked with the 2nd style marking "MODEL. 1873" with foliate accents. Straight grip walnut stock set with smooth trapdoor crescent steel buttplate. CONDITION: overall fair. The metal has a smooth cleaned grey patina with crisp markings and some scattered handling marks. Stock set is hand worn with numerous scattered handling marks and dings. The forearm some minor edge chipping, oil staining and a small tight crack at the rec. The butt has some minor edge chipping. The bore is frosted with decent lightly worn rifling and some pitting.
