Lot 4039 EARLY ANTIQUE 1ST MODEL WINCHESTER 1873 SADDLE

RING CARBINE. Cal. 44-40. S# 11010. Mfg. 1875. This carbine is fitted with a 20" bbl with early style 2-line bbl address "WINCHESTERS-REPEATING-ARMS. NEW HAVEN. CT / KINGS-IMPROVEMENT-PATENTED-MARCH 29. 1866. OCTOBER. 16. 1860". The forward bbl band has an integral front sight and the rear sight is a flip up carbine sight. The rec has a mortised dust cover relief with checkered 1/2" oval thumb print and saddle ring. Assembly number "724" is found on the lower tang. The carbine forend is held with a single bbl band. The carbine buttstock has a smooth steel carbine buttplate with trapdoor and assembly number "1422" found in the upper channel. CONDITION: overall fair. The metal has a smooth dark brown patina with some dings and handling marks. Stock set has been sanded and refinished. The forearm has some edge chips, a bit of saddle wear and handling marks. The butt has a few edge chips and a crack at the upper buttplate tang. The buttplate appears to have been epoxied in place. Bore has decent rifling with some frosting and pitting. (01-28777/ZAL).
