LEVER ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 44-40 (44-40 WCF). S# 720405. Bbl. 28" octagon to rnd., 4" longer than standard. Sporting front sight, filler in rear dovetail, with Vernier tang sight. Half length mag. Single set trigger. Replacement forearm and pistol grip stock of fancy walnut have crescent steel trapdoor buttplate and sling eyes. Deluxe features include ebony grip insert and hand checkering similar to the factory Style H Style done in a borderless pattern. Left inside of lower tang has assembly # "444" followed by wood grade marking "X" that appears to be added. Top tang channel of stock is marked with "0405". The Model 1873 was produced in limited quantities up until 1923, this is one of the last '73s produced after standard production ended. CONDITION: bbl. and mag. tube have 40% reblue with spotted finish loss. Bbl. address appears to be remarked. Breech end has "WP" proof mark. Action has 40% dull fading re-case colored finish with small spots of pitting. Stock and forearm finish showing scattered scratches and marks. Sound action and set trigger. Pitted bore has some remaining rifling. (25-1268/DS). CURIO. $5,000-7,000.
