Lot 2511 2 JAPANESE SHIN-GUNTO KATANA.

1) Naval. Overall length is 40 3/4" with a 29" blade having a straight hamon and a silvered copper habaki. Plain iron tsuba with a large rayed seppa above and below along with a small seppa above and below. The nakago is unsigned but has a Naval stamp at the base with a single mekugi-ana. Tuska has matching gilded fuchi and kabuto-gane with black same. The tsuka has a brown tsuka-ito and gilded three cherry blossom menuki. Black/brown enameled saya with a fish skin motif featuring matching gilded gunto. CONDITION: blade has a fine polish. Tsuka and saya have light wear overall. 2) Late 1944 Shin-gunto katana with an overall length of 37 1/2" with a 25" blade wtih an irregular wavy hamon and a silvered copper habaki. Plain iron tsuba with a single seppa above and below. Tsuka can not be removed. Matching iron fuchi and kabuto-gani. White same with 3 cherry blossom brass menuchi and brown painted tsuka-ito. The kabuto-gani has a blue and brown sarute indicating a company grade officer. Black textured finish wooden saya with iron gunto. CONDITION: blade has a very fine polish. Tsuka and saya show light wear. (02-26661-2/BF). NON-GUN. $1,000-1,400.
