^Lot 2132 US. M1911 PISTOL WITH AJ SAVAGE ATTRIBUTED SLIDE

& COLT FRAME. Cla. 45 ACP. S# 36782. Per reference material, including Meadows, Poyer & Clawson books, The A.J. Savage Munitions Company was incorporated April 23, 1917 as Arthur W. Savage the principle stockholder. Ordnance Department contract, number P12303-2078SA, was signed to the A.J. Savage Munitions Company on July 20, 1918 ordering 100,000 pistols at $14.00 each. The contract was suspended on December 4, 1918 with no deliveries of pistols. There is no hard evidence confirming or disproving that the slides bearing only Colt patent dates and the letter S inside an Ordnance bomb logo were products of the A.J. Savage Munition Company. These slides are usually found on World War I era receivers or on Colt manufactured replacement frames. This pistol has a WWII 5" High Standard bbl. Slide has Type A front & B rear sights. Colt frame originally mfg. 1913 appearing to have most correct parts "U.S. Pistols & Revolvers 1909-1945" by J.C. Harrison including dbl. diamond checkering walnut grips. MAGS: 1 two tone 7 rd. mag. showing oxidation & worn blue. CONDITION: AJ Savage slide has approx. 70% period brushed blued finish with fading to gray/brown patina, edge wear, & cycling wear. Frame has approx. 35% original fine blue finish showing gray/brown patina on bottom portions of frame & handling wears; large % of blue protected by grips showing oxidation & finish loss. Fair worn grips. Barrel has post WWII arsenal parkerized refinish; good rifling with building in grooves. (26-2068/MD). CURIO. $1,500-2,000.
