LM-2 Inch 8* mortar, most likely produced by a Commonwealth country and issued in the Belgian military. The side of the tube is marked "COLLECTORS CORNER/ HARDON, OH." above original markings "ML-2 IN. MORTAR 8*" above a partially legible line of text that appears to read "A.B.L.51" and additional digits that have been obscured by the paint. Side of base plate is marked "No 0295" above "ML-2-IN. MORTAR 8*/ A.B.L.51", followed by Belgian proofs. Mortar tube exhibits a reapplied green painted finish, with a single strip of white paint painted along its axis on one side. Base plate / trigger mechanism exhibits a darker green painted finish. Mortar has been deactivated via a 2" diameter hole towards the base, interior welding of the tube and base plate assembly, as well as via the addition of a welded bar towards the muzzle. CONDITION: tube and base plate retain large amounts of their painted finish, exhibiting scattered superficial handling marks, as well as scattered spots of flaking overall. Exterior of tube exhibits losses to its paint in the corresponding area of the internal weld towards the base plate. PROVENANCE: Military Museum Collection of Shooters Outpost, Hooksett NH. (02-26751/MLW). NON-GUN. $600-800.
