^Lot 471 Springfield Armory U.S. Model 1866 Second Allin Conversion Trapdoor Rifle

Springfield Armory U.S. Model 1866 Second Allin Conversion Trapdoor Rifle, #NVSN, .50-70 cal., 36" barrel is "in the white", lockplate was originally color case hardened, walnut stock, replaced blade front sight, two-position "U"-notch and peep leaf rear sight. The rifle was converted from a M1863 percussion musket to cartridge at Springfield Armory and referred to as the second Allin. Breechblock has lightening cuts and is marked "1866/(Eagle)". Thumb latch screw was replaced and is incorrect. Lockplate is marked "(Eagle)" then "U.S./SRPINGFIELD", with "1864" behind the hammer. Ramrod is correct and full-length but hard to remove. Barrel bands are marked "U". Condition is good overall. Metal is now mottled brown throughout, but there is no pitting. Stock is unmarked and in good condition, with scattered dents and scratches throughout; there is a small crack under the lockplate. Hammer and trigger work properly but the firing pin is frozen, and the ejector spring is missing. Three-groove bore is very good with strong rifling, but lightly frosted. Est.: $600-$900. (Antique)
