Lot 463 Nepal Converted British Brown Bess Musket

Nepal Converted British Brown Bess Musket, #L480, approx. .577 cal. smoothbore, 38.4" shortened barrel, bright metal with brass fittings. Hardwood stock with three brass rammer pipes. Modified pyramid shaped front sight and fixed rear sight with wide "V"-notch. Includes an iron rammer and leather nipple protector with chain is attached to the rear sling swivel. There is a faint, original "(Rampart Lion)" and "(Crown)3" lock viewer's mark visible on the lock plate; "1810" was later stamped on the tail, with "JPR/EXR2442" stamped into left side of the barrel. Nepalese Nagari script characters have been added to right side of the buttstock. Condition overall is good, with the barrel cleaned bright, now showing areas of brown patina. There is wear to the blued lock plate and hammer. Brass parts show moderate toning. Wood with general dents and scratches scattered throughout. Hammer operates smoothly and holds on half and full-cock. Est.: $500-$800. (Antique)
