^Lot 457 New England Percussion Fowler

New England Percussion Fowler, # NVSN, approx. 16 ga., 45" octagon barrel, brown finish. Smooth hardwood full-stock with full-length ramrod (broken), iron pipes, darkened brass trigger guard, brass patchbox with pineapple finial, and smooth brass crescent buttplate. Small brass blade front sight and fixed "U"-notch rear sight. Lightly engraved hammer and lock with illegible maker name. There is a cleaned spot on the top barrel flat with the maker's name in script. Mfg'd circa mid-19th century. Fowler is in good overall condition. Metal surfaces have gone to a dark brown patina, with pitting at the muzzle, smoothing of edges, and light surface erosion along the barrel. Lock is dark with light corrosion from firing. Stock is in fair condition, with indentations and scrapes, missing the escutcheons and a barrel wedge. There is a 2" chip repair at the toe, with a couple old nails securing it. Buttplate is proud around the perimeter. Action functions and holds at full-cock. Bore is dark with heavy erosion. Est.: $300-$500. (Antique)
