Lot 1410 2 WWII JAPANESE NCO KATANA.
1) Japanese WWII NCO shin gunto katana measuring 38 1/4" overall with a 27 1/2" blade with no perceptible hamon and a full length hi. The blade is numbered "115016". Gilded brass habaki with 1 seppa above and below the plain round iron tsuba. The nakago cannot be viewed as the tsuka cannot be removed. The tsuka has a Kokura marked fuchi and integral kabuto-gane. The tsuka is one piece painted aluminum with simulated same and menuki. Metal saya with dark field green painted finish. CONDITION: blade has severe rust spots but no flaws of chips. The tsuka shows abundant wear but no damage. Saya is also quite solid and retains 60% of its finish. 2) Japanese WWII NCO shin gunto katana measuring 38 1/4" overall with a 27 1/2" blade with no perceptible hamon and a full length hi. The blade is numbered "82049". Gilded brass habaki with 1 seppa above and below the classic brass 4-lobed tsuba. The nakago cannot be viewed as the tsuka cannot be removed. The tsuka has a Kokura marked fuchi and integral kabuto-gane. The tsuka is one piece painted aluminum with simulated same and menuki. Metal saya with dark brown painted finish is incorrect for this katana. CONDITION: blade shows some flaws and cleaned oxidation. The tsuka shows abundant wear but no damage. Saya is also quite solid with a couple of shallow dents and retains 75% of its finish. (02-25785/BF). $500-750.
