^Lot 1240 PRE-WAR WALTHER SPORTSMODELL V BOLT ACTION RIFLE

WITH SPURIOUS SS INSCRIPTION. Cal. 5.4mm. S# 79406. Bbl. 25 5/8". Sportsmodell V bolt action rifle mfg. by Walther. Top of the bbl. is engraved with a spurious "KARL WOLF SS, with the Walther banner logo, "Sportsmodell V", and various German commercial proofs marked towards the breech. Top of the receiver is marked "Waffenfabrik Walther/ Zella-Mehlis Thuringen". Underside of stock is stamped with a "W" within an oval proof, behind the pistol grip. Metal components exhibit a blue finish overall, save for on the bolt body, which is polished in-the-white. 1-piece pistol grip buttstock, featuring checkering at the wrist and grasping grooves on the forend. Stock has been sanded and revarnished at one time. Checkered black synthetic trigger guard, with Walther banner checkered black synthetic buttplate. Ramped blade front sight, with wide semi U-notch tangent rear sight, graduated 25-200. Bolt matches the receiver via the last 3-digits of the S# "406", which is stamped on the underside of the bolt root. CONDITION: metal components retain large amounts of their original factory blue finish, exhibiting areas of wear and thinning that show through to gray patina, scattered superficial handling marks, as well as areas of light to mild surface oxidation overall. Bbl. exhibits areas of moderate pitting. Mirror bore, retaining strong rifling throughout. Stock shows scattered marks and impressions from handling and storage, but otherwise remains sturdy and serviceable. (25-1418/MLW). CURIO. $200-400.
