GROUP, 865th BOMB SQUADRON AIR MEDAL & DOCUMENTATION. 2nd Lt. Dively was a co-pilot of "Sittin Pretty", a B-24J. While the crew was on a bombing mission to Shanghai, China, on July 17th, 1945, the plane was hit by anti-aircraft fire. The crew bailed prior to the crash. Six crew members were rescued by Chinese guerrillas, three were captured by the Japanese and 2nd Lt. Dively was shot and killed by the Japanese while trying to escape. In May of 1947, a body was recorded by AGRS-CZ search and rescue team #3 and was identified as Unknown X-877. After the investigation, the HQ American Graves Registration Service - China Zone changed Dively's status to "KIA, Body Recovered, Identified" and was signed by Captain Michel. But, after the dental records were found to not match the body discovered his status was returned to MIA, and he is currently listed as MIA on the tablet of missing at Manila American Cemetery. This grouping includes his Air Medal with name engraved on the reverse and its original case, as well as an extensive research archive that includes FOIA records and additional research.
