Lot 1109 US MARKED REMINGTON MODEL 40-X BOLT ACTION TARGET
RIFLE. Cal. 22 LR. S# 22715 B. Bbl. 28" heavy target drilled and tapped for sight bases about 6 1/2" from receiver and at muzzle where Unertl style base is installed. Receiver drilled and tapped normally for scope mounting with Unertl style target block located on rear bridge. Mfg. as "Rangemaster" 1956-1964 having barrel code of "WPL"; for year, "L" corresponds to 1964 but unusual to have two month letters (they don't correspond to possible years) of August (W) and June (P). Appropriate period features of tall serrated winged safety, 12 pound 7 ounce weight, built in bedding device (first production firearm to have this feature), oil finished target stock with full length blackened aluminum forend rail, Mershon White Line serrated rubber buttplate, 1 1/2" military style sling swivel on toe line, single shot action, stock inletted for Redfield Olympic receiver sight plus checkered oval pattern on top and bottom of bolt handle. Left side of receiver stamped "U. S." above its caliber which is above serial number. Action screws (3) are Allen head and triggerguard is blackened aluminum. Trigger pull measures just over one pound. A very capable target rifle for position shooting or an Apple Seed match. CONDITION: stock has minor handling marks and an appearance of refinish. Barrel has a couple of very light marks on its original finish. Bolt shroud has speckled finish loss. Forend rail has some light use marks and an appearance of refinish; triggerguard also appears refinished. Buttplate has an aged appearance noticeable around its perimeter and at toe. Bore is near excellent. Front of receiver and rear of barrel are missing plug screws. PROVENANCE: From the Lifetime Collection of Malcolm Zickler, Ret. USAF Lt. Col. (26-767/NW). CURIO. $750-1,000.
