Lot 3094 ANTIQUE THIRD MODEL WINCHESTER 1873 LEVER ACTION
SADDLE RING CARBINE. Cal. 44 WCF. S# 252946B. Bbl. 20". Third Model 1873 lever action saddle ring carbine mfg. by Winchester in 1887. Top of the bbl. is marked with Winchester's 2-line mfg. and patent information, with the cal. designation marked towards the breech. Upper receiver tang is marked "MODEL 1873" between 2 small foliate motifs. Underside of brass elevator is marked "44 CAL.". Single band fastened plain wood forearm with sanded and refinished plain wood straight grip buttstock and crescent steel buttplate. Fixed blade front sight with dovetailed and screw fastened flip-up V-notch rear sight. Left side of the receiver is fitted with a saddle ring staple and ring. Front bbl. band screw has been replaced with a peened steel pin. CONDITION: metal components retain scant traces of their original factory finishes in protected areas, with the balance having faded to a mottled gray patina, exhibiting scattered spots and patches of light to mild pitting, patches of age related discoloration, as well as scattered marks, dings, and scratches. Top of the bbl. exhibits a notable impression, though it is not visible in the bore. Lower receiver tang exhibits striations from prior cleaning. Dark bore, exhibiting consistent moderate pitting, while retaining trace rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics. Forearm shows scattered marks and impressions from handling and storage, with a large crack present on the underside, stemming from the bbl. band. Buttstock exhibits scattered marks and impressions, with numerous chips of varying size present primarily along the edges of the receiver and receiver tangs. (01-28906/MLW). ANTIQUE. $1,200-1,800.
