Lot 1608 Winchester Model 54 .30-06 Sprg #30880A

Desirable high quality bolt action sporting rifle chambered in .30-06 Government, manufactured circa 1930. The model 54 was Winchester's first bolt action rifle built to handle heavy high-velocity ammunition, production lasted from 1925-1936 with just over 50,000 produced. Features a blued finish, 24" tapered barrel, pinned blade front sight with brass bead, folding leaf rear sight mounted in a dovetail, curved serrated trigger, polished bolt with turned-down handle, three-position safety on the rear, internal box magazine, hand-textured walnut semi-pistol grip shoulder stock, hand-textured forend, added end cap, added grip cap, and a vented rubber recoil pad. Safety positions are opposite of typical Mauser type rifles, "safe" is with flag to left, "fire" with flag to right. Rifle exhibits a thinned finish with approximately 30% bluing retained, some patina on receiver, bare metal shows on edges and where handled. There are a couple of gouges on the barrel, one on the right side close to the chamber, and the other is on the underside of the barrel almost under the front sight. The action is sound, the bore appears dark with good rifling, and it may need to be cleaned. The markings are very good and the wood stock is in serviceable condition with small dents & scratches. The stock is very customized, there are no sling studs, and there is a rear action screw in the tang that is hard to see. It comes with a Redfield one-piece mount.
