Lot 1534 Savage 1917 .380 ACP #159548
Vintage American made striker fired semi-automatic compact pistol chambered in .380 Automatic Colt Pistol, manufactured between 1917 and 1928 in Utica, NY. Roughly 27,000 of these pistols were made, and many were sold to the French government during WWI. Pistol features a blued finish, approximately 4-1/4" barrel, fixed blade front sight, notched slide rear sight, solid smooth curved trigger, serrated cocking lever (not a hammer), frame mounted manual safety/slide catch on the left side of the frame, checkered toe magazine release, ten-round magazine, steel frame with smooth grip straps, and two-piece fancy checkered black synthetic grips with Savage insignias. The address/patent mark on the slide reads "SAVAGE ARMS CORP. UTICA, N.Y. U.S.A. CAL. 380./PATENTED NOVEMBER 21. 1905.-9.M-M." The original blued finish retained is approximately 96% with general fading to showing a dull gray patina, edge wear, and light scattered blemishes. Metal displays no deformation, but shows very small scattered spots of rust and pin-prick pitting. Bore shows rifling, but is dull with frosting and light erosion. The action smooth and crisp. The hard rubber grips are very good with a chip on the left grip panel, light scattered scratches, and general handling wear. Pistol includes one nickel plated magazine.
