Lot 1492 St. Denis Daudeteau 6.5x53.5Rmm #4899

German made single-shot bolt action rifle originally produced for Uruguayan service (known as the Dovitiis), and later converted for the French and chambered for the 6.5x53.5R (semi-rimmed) smokeless cartridge. This is an antique conversion rifle that started out as a 1871 Mauser chambered for 11mm Mauser. These were converted at the St. Denis arsenal in France. Rifle features a blued finish, a 31-1/2" barrel, raised inverted 'V' front sight, elevation adjustable ladder rear sight, smooth curved trigger, brass trigger guard, straight bolt handle, bolt mounted checkered flag style manual safety, sling swivel on the rear barre band and a hole at the front of the trigger guard, and a cleaning rod under the barrel. The hardwood furniture consists of a smooth straight gripped shoulder stock with a sling swivel at the bottom, smooth forend, and a smooth metal butt plate. The markings include an '1883' date on right receiver rail, a faint "J.G. M/71,' and arsenal markings for St. Denis on the chamber of the barrel. Serial number '4899' matches on the frame and bolt. The original blued arsenal refinish is approximately 95% with few light scratches, losses on the barrel bands, and the rifle is showing some patina. The brass finish is also showing patina. Metal displays rust on the rear sling swivel, and light spots around the receiver and bolt, and there is observed deformation in some of the screw slots. Some of the markings are sharp, while the markings prior to the conversion are shallow. The furniture shows minor dings and blemishes, along with normal storage marks on stock. Action is smooth and crisp, and the bore is bright with strong rifling. It appears that this rifle has seen very little to no use since conversion.
Condition is NRA Fine.
