Lot 818 Lefever Long Range Field & Trap 20 Ga #22294
Custom stocked single barrel boxlock hammerless shotgun chambered for 2 3/4" 20 gauge shells. Manufactured in Ithaca, NY. Features an approximately 28" round barrel, bore measures 'F' (drop-in gauge), ejector, brass bead front sight, smooth curved trigger, and serrated sliding tang safety. Highly figured walnut furniture consists of a smooth semi-pistol grip shoulder stock, smooth beavertail forend, serrated black plastic grip cap, and thin textured brown rubber Pachmayr recoil pad with black spacer. The barrel and forend are marked with the name 'G. Newton,' and the forend has the added date of '1987'. Serial numbers match on the receiver, barrel, and forend metal. Limited coverage of a water fowl scene on each side of the receiver. The receiver, trigger guard, top lever, and trigger are color-case hardened. The original color-case hardened finish remaining is approximately 45% intact showing patina, and a loss in the brilliant colors the process provides. Furniture wood is near excellent with a 1/2" hair-line crack by the top tang. The blued finish on the barrel is approximately 90% intact with wear/thinning forward of the forend. Action is smooth and crisp with the top lever resting right of center, and the bore is bright and shiny. A very nice example of an early American hammerless shotgun.
