Lot 743 BSA 22 No 2 'Enfield' .22 LR #W51747
British military single shot bolt action training rifle chambered in .22 caliber rimfire, converted by Birmingham Small Arms Company (BSA) circa 1955. Featuring a black painted finish, 25.2" barrel, protected raised patridge front sight, adjustable leaf style rear sight graduated to 2,000 yards with a 25 yard mark, metal nose cap with bayonet lug, curved serrated trigger, '22' marked hollowed magazine that acts as a brass collector, manual safety on the left side of the receiver, and integral charge loading bridge on the receiver. The Hardwood furniture consists of a smooth straight grip shoulder stock, smooth full-length handguard and forend, and a brass trapdoor buttplate. The right side of the butt socket is marked "[broad arrow]/1955/22/No 2." The bold head is stamped ".22," the left side of the receiver is marked "FTR 1954" (Factory Thorough Repair), the barrel is stamped with [stacked rifles]/"BSA," and shows nitro proof marks for the .22 LR cartridge. Serial numbers match on the receiver, barrel, bolt handle, rear sight, forend, and nose cap. Rifle retains approximately 80% of it's black paint finish showing scattered handling wear, scratches and light dings. Action is smooth and crisp, the bore is bright with strong rifling. The furniture wood is good with light scattered scratches, some scattered moderate dings, and a chip at the receiver's right edge. Metal displays rust on many of the components including the nose cap, rear sight protective ears, magazine, sling swivels, and buttsocket. This rifle would be 'Good,' or better without the rust.
