Lot 647 Germanic or Dutch Flintlock Military Musket.
Circa about 1750-1770's. Approximately 75 cal smooth bore with 41" bbl and 55" overall. Brass mounted except sideplate which is steel. Forend cap secured by one tension spring. Lock is unmarked as is the bbl but a round plaque is inlaid at the wrist and engraved R 1 1. J. J. also reference Collector's Illustrated Encyclopedia of the American Revolution. A. Page 209 Ill 14, similar sideplate identified as Dutch 1770-1780. B Page 213 Ill 19 similar butt plate shape at top. C. Page 206 Ill 26, Dutch 1775-1780. The musket remains in good to very good condition with metal surfaces showing a light to dark brown patina (mostly dark on the lock.) Minor surface pitting and erosion. The stock is good with minor chip and small losses along the ramrod change and around the tang. The rear of the stock cleaned with steel wool but not sanded. The lock parts are original, the lock works except not staying on full cock.
