Lot 370a Sterling Silver & Turquoise Belt Buckle.

By Hopi silversmith Roy Talahaftewa. The bottom half is an etched sun design and the top half is a kachina design in the distinctive overlay technique developed by the Hopi Indian Tribe in the 1930s. The overlay tecnique involves a design cut from a flat piece of silver. The background piece of silver is textured and oxidized to make it black in color, and the cut-out piece with the design is soldered to this base. In this buckle, a triangular shaped piece of Lone Mountain Turquoise was used as a centerpiece. Buckle measures 3" x 2 1/4". The buckle is maker marked and signed.
