Lot 230 Raised Carved Flintlock Fusil Officers Musket. 69cal
American stocked and raised, with lock, signed Bingham in script. Possibly Henry Bingham who worked in Philadelphia area and assembled committee of safety, Flintlocks circa 1775. The musket measures nearly 53" overall with 37" buttisa proofed bbl of approximately 69 cal smooth bore. A somewhat crude forged ramrod that matches gun's patina included. The bbl shows GR with crown and broad head proofs with initial "G" (1st letter illegible and light) at the left side of the breach. Brass military style mounts with revolutionary war era "S" side plate. Raised carved around the tang in a scroll motiff with good quality molding around the sideplate and around the lock and forend. The wood is distinctly American with "fiddleback" striping. The stock has had the forward 24 1/2" of the forend professionally restored from a joint at the rear thimble just ahead of the carving (good work). The rear portion of the stock is good with minor cracks, losses and aging. Sling swivels retained. The lock shows a dark brown patina matching to the barrel and original Flintlock condition with correct small parts (re-hammer, top-jaw, frizzen, spring and screws). A very attractive revolutionary war era long arm with rare raised carving.
