Lot 76 Walther PP 'PDM Marked' .32 ACP #941841
This is a scarce example of a WW2 PDM marked Walther PP semi-automatic pistol. Manufactured 1936. The left side of the slide is stamped with the Walther banner, the two-line Zella-Mehlis (Thur) legend and "Mod. PP." There are commercial "crown/N" proofs located on right side of the slide, chamber and barrel at the muzzle. The frame has the serial number stamped vertically on the right side and "PDM" stamped vertically over "1778" property number on the left side. The "PDM" stands for "Polizei, Direktion Munchen (Munich Police Directorate) or area. The pistol has a high polish commercial blue finish and is fitted with checkered Walther banner grips. The all blue magazine has the Walther banner stamped on the left side, with finger extension. The pistol correctly falls into the serial number range. According to Jan Still in "Axis Pistols" page 203 under WALTHER PP-PDM this agency was controlled by Himmler from 1933 and many objects like typewriters, binoculars and firearms were marked with these PDM property numbers. Jan further indicates that about 1800 PPs were so marked in the serial range 753xxx to 9418xx. Includes brown leather Police holster with "Walther PP" ink stamp under the flap. The bore is very good/bright, strong rifling, action is smooth, grips are very good, no chips or cracks and the blue finish is about 95% with minor scratches/edge wear. Holster is very good, stitching intact, minor scuffs.
