Lot 12 Winchester 1897 '2 BBL Set' 12 Ga #385881
American made pump-action shotgun chambered for 2-1/2" 12 Gauge shells, and manufactured circa 1907 in New Haven, CT. The Model 1897 was produced from 1897 until 1957. Shotgun has a factory matching set of barrels, with serial number #385881 on both barrels. Shotgun features a blued finish, an installed 26" round barrel with an 'IC' choke (measured with a drop-in gauge), a second approximately 32" barrel that is marked and measured 'full' (measured with a drop-in gauge), brass bead front sight, smooth curved trigger, exposed hammer with a checkered spur, approximately 2/3 length magazine tube, and right side receiver mounted push-button slide release. The hardwood furniture consists of a smooth semi-pistol gripped shoulder stock, grooved corn-cob style slide handle, 14" length-of-pull, and a black checkered hard rubber Winchester butt plate. The original blued finish retained is approximately 40% with some scratches and dings, and is turning a brown patina. Metal displays minor light erosion, fine pin-prick pitting, and light deformation in some of the screw slots. The markings are sharp, and the action is smooth and crisp. The bores (both) are smooth and bright, but dirty. The wood furniture is fair to good with hairline cracks at the right wrist, and shoulder stock (screw inserted for structural integrity). The spare barrel's crown shows some evidence that it may have been trimmed about 1/8-1/16" in length. Shotgun includes a two barrel set, which is seldom encountered and rare.
