Lot 3512 1760 STYLE EUROPEAN BACKSWORD & BAVARIAN SWORD.
1) A reproduction of a European basket hilt backsword of the second half of the 18th century measuring 40 1/2" in length. Plain blade with 2 narrow fullers. The basket hilt has 2 oval grotesque masks embellishing the guard. The inside of the guard is fitted with fine red leather and a cloth tassel. The matching red leather scabbard has iron mounts. CONDITION: very light wear overall. 2) Scarce circa 1830 Bavarian court sword measuring 36 1/2" overall with gold highlighted etching on the blade. Gilded brass hilt with a lion on the downturned guard and a lion head pommel. Ornate knuckle bow with a crowned star on the front mother-of-pearl grip. No scabbard. CONDITION: blade has a dark patina. Only a trace of gilded finish remains on the hilt. Hilt is a bit loose. Grips are solid with no damage. (02-25310/BF). NON-GUN. $300-450.
