Lot 3494 16TH TO 17TH CENTURY VENETIAN SCHIAVONA SWORD.

An example of a early 16th to 17th century Venetian schiavona measuring 41 1/2" overall with a plain 35" double edged blade featuring a central 9" fuller. Classic schiavona hilt with multiple branches and a thumb loop. Brass flattened tulip shaped pommel with a grotesque face on either side. Brass simulated wire wrapped grip. CONDITION: blade shows light wear and may be a replacement. Hilt has a great patina with minor pitting. Brass pommel and grip show wear but could be early replacements. PROVENANCE: Estate Collection of Nicholas Apergis. (02-24779/BF). NON-GUN. $1,000-2,000.
