Lot 3426 INTERESTING FRENCH SCREW CANNON BARREL FLINTLOCK
PISTOL BY LOUIS LAMOTTE WITH SILVER MOUNTS. Cal. 60. S# NSN. 10" overall this pistol has 3-3/4" cannon turned screw off barrel that is unmarked. Breech with integral flint lock on right side is engraved "Louis Lamotte" "a' St. Etienne" (probably working 1747-1791) on bottom tang. Area under lock is engraved "Balthazar Granier" "a. Smirne" (a Turkish retailer ?). Lock features round bodied reinforced cock, rounded pan and bridled friction frizzen, with feather spring that mounts at center of lock and curls under pan. Trigger guard slides to act as a safety. Burl figured European walnut knobbed pistol grip stock has some relief carving behind barrel tang and silver grip cap of a lion's face which has London hallmarks for 1754, Sterling and with maker's mark "PL". CONDITION: fair to good. Barrel and action cleaned to silvery gray brown. Stock shows considerable wear and repairs on grip. Silver is good. Bore is rough. Mechanically good.
