Lot 3424 FRENCH CIRCA. 1750 FLINTLOCK RECONVERSION HORSE

PISTOL. Cal. 69 Smoothbore. NSN. Bbl. 14 1/8". Flintlock horse pistol produced in France by an unknown mfg., later converted to percussion, and subsequently reconverted back to a flintlock configuration. Center of lockplate exhibits foliate scroll engraving (which extends to the side of the hammer, with raised foliate ornamentation present on the rear of the lock, front face of the frizzen, pommel cap (with stirrups), trigger guard, as well as on the top of the bbl. Left side of the bbl. is marked with an apparent boxed "DI" proof, which is repeated 5 times on the top of the bbl. 1-piece carved and foliate relief carved wood stock, with engraved iron sideplate and wrist escutcheon. Forearm exhibits a spliced repair. Faceted iron pipe and ferrule with 1-piece iron ramrod. Trigger features a curl at the rear. CONDITION: metal components are relatively bright, as cleaned, exhibiting scattered spots/areas of mild pitting overall. Pommel cap exhibits a gray patina overall. Proper manual mechanics, although the hammer occasionally gets caught in the half-cocked position when the trigger is pulled. Stock exhibits scattered marks and impressions from handling and storage, with chipping present around the lockplate, sideplate, pommel and bbl. channel.
