HALF STOCK PERCUSSION RIFLE. Cal. 45. NSN. Solomon H. Ward, so of James Ward, operated from 1865-1884 (death) in Jamestown, North Carolina. Oct. 41.5" w/ German silver blade front sight & notch rear sight. Top of barrel marked "VI S.H.WARD JAMESTOWN, N.C.". Bottom of barrel has iron underrib with 2 pipes holding replacement undersized hardwood ramrod. Poorly fitted percussion lock; dbl. triggers. Half stock pinned walnut stock w/ beavertail cheekpiece; brass furniture includes nose cap, thimble, finger curl triggerguard & crescent buttplate. CONDITION: barrel has dark brown corroded appearance with cleaning around maker's stamp. Lock has pitted cleaned gray appearance; appears mechanically fine when cycled by hand. Wood shows numerous dings & marks with pinned plate near hammer, cracks near lock screw & peeling finish around toeline. Dark pitted bore. (01-28303/MD). ANTIQUE. $500-800.
