Lot 3403 CHARLES L WERNER OF ROCHESTER, NY HEAVY BARREL

PERCUSSION TARGET RIFLE. Cal. 45. NSN. Charles L Werner (1855-1876) of Rochester, New York made percussion target rifles and air gun. Oct. 26" w/ 1.25" muzzle starter measuring 1 3/8" diameter. Underside of bbl. has large dovetail for target rest, 2 pipes & base for hardwood brass tipped ramrod. Modern globe front sight & Redfield receiver sight having brass tab. Back action lock w/ single trigger. Walnut buttstock w/ crescent buttplate & finger curl triggerguard. CONDITION: metal has brown patina appearance with oxidation throughout. Replacement nipple. Wood has worn appearance with repaired breaks & cracks at top of wrist. Bore shows strong rifling. Muzzle starter is stuck in place. Lock appears mechanically fine. PROVENANCE: Estate Collection of Groves Herrick. (01-28313/MD). ANTIQUE. $500-900.
