Lot 3391 BARRY C. WOOD OF PAINTED POST, NEW YORK O/U BUCK

& BALL RIFLE. Cal. 38 Rifled / 12 Ga. NSN. BC Wood (1842-1876) was a prolific maker of many various "made to order" rifles and shotguns. Later, his sons, A.H. Wood and C. H Wood , continued in the trade. Most of these guns are unique in detail, but classifiable by Woods in continents and configuration. Wood was known for making O/U, which he characteristically used underhammer with the trigger guard mainspring for the lower barrel. Upper 32" rifled barrel has blade front sight & elevator rear sight. Under smoothbore 32" barrel. Side ribs have pipes for ramrods. Engraved lock, top tang, side hammer, bottom tang & circular patch box. Top tang has folding lollipop peep sight. Straight grip checkered walnut stock w/ crescent buttplate & shadowline cheekpiece. CONDITION: barrels & locks have gray appearance with light patina & marks. Fair worn wood finish with dings & marks. Rifling is strong with darkness in the grooves. Smoothbore shows scattered pitting & dents. Top barrel nipple is a replacement, but has shown use. Mechanically fine. (01-28293/MD). ANTIQUE. $600-1,000.
