Lot 3242 2 POST CIVIL WAR US NAVY M1852 OFFICER'S SWORDS.

1) A post Civil War M1852 US Navy officer's sword measuring 37" overall featuring a blade etched with various nautical, patriotic and foliate motifs and the name "J. M. PETERSON". There is no makers mark except a 6 pointed star with the word "PROVED". Gilded brass hilt with a pierced foliate guard displaying the letters "USN". Wire wrapped sharkskin grip and a gilded brass mounted leather scabbard. CONDITION: the blade shows some original factory polish. The hilt and scabbard mounts have lost most of their gilded finish. Scabbard has scuffs to the leather body. 2) Another post Civil War M1852 US Navy officer's sword measuring 38 1/4" overall featuring a blade etched with various nautical, patriotic and foliate motifs. There is no makers mark except a deep "MADE U.S.A." stamp. Gilded brass hilt with a pierced foliate guard displaying the letters "USN". Wire wrapped faux sharkskin grip and a gilded brass mounted leather scabbard. CONDITION: the blade shows original factory polish. The hilt and scabbard mounts have lost nearly all of their gilded finish. Scabbard has scuffs and scrapes to the leather body. (02-26171/BF). NON-GUN. $300-450.
