Cal. 38 WCF. S# 108213. 24 1/4". Model 1892 lever action rifle mfg. by Winchester in 1896. Top of the rnd. bbl. is marked with Winchester's 2-line address, with the cal. designation marked towards the breech. Upper receiver tang is marked "MODEL 1892/ -WINCHESTER-" above patent information. Metal components exhibit a reapplied blue finish overall. Lightly sanded and refinished plain wood forearm and straight grip buttstock with crescent steel buttplate. Contemporary aftermarket dovetailed brass beaded blade front sight with dovetailed V-notch rear sight. CONDITION: metal components retain virtually all of their reapplied blue finish, exhibiting some scratches and handling marks, with scattered spots of light to mild pitting present beneath the bluing. Forward area of mag. tube (ahead of band) exhibits scattered spots of light surface oxidation. Dark pitted bore, retaining fair to good rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics. Wood furniture shows scattered superficial marks and a few minor impressions from handling and storage, but otherwise remains sound. (01-28186/MLW). ANTIQUE. $500-700.
