Lot 3004 WINCHESTER MODEL 1873 LEVER ACTION SADDLE RING

CARBINE IN "TRAPPER" CONFIGURATION. Cal. 44 WCF. S# 293389B. Bbl. 16 3/16". Model 1873 lever action rifle mfg. by Winchester in 1889. Top of the rnd. bbl. is marked with a (apparent) later added Winchester 2-line address, with a later added "44 W.C.F." marked on the left towards the breech. Upper receiver tang is marked "MODEL 1873". Sanded and refinished single band fastened plain wood forearm and straight grip buttstock with carbine buttplate. Brass blade front sight with dovetailed carbine ladder rear sight graduated 0-20. Left side of the receiver is fitted with a saddle ring and staple. Bbl. has been shortened and bored out to .44 W.C.F. Bolt face has been shaved down to accommodate caliber conversion. CONDITION: metal components have largely faded to gray, exhibiting traces of apparent reapplied bluing remaining in some areas, areas of light surface oxidation and pitting, as well as scattered handling marks overall. Mirror bore, exhibiting an area of light oxidation towards the muzzle, while retaining sharp albeit shallow rifling throughout. Wood furniture shows some scattered marks and impressions from handling and storage, but otherwise remains sturdy and serviceable. (01-28202/MLW). ANTIQUE. $700-1,000.
