1896 JEFF DAVIS U.S. SENATOR ELECTION PINBACK BUTTON. Lot consists of: 1) Small brass shield shaped badge marked "SMITH &/ WESSON/ ARMS/ INSPECTOR/ 374" on the front. CONDITION: badge remains sound, exhibiting a mottled brown patina overall. 2) Circa. 1896 Jeff Davis Senator election pinback button. Button is marked "FOR U.S. SENATOR" above a portrait of Jeff Davis and "JEFF DAVIS". Rear of button is marked "Patented April 14, '96/ JULY 21, '96". CONDITION: badge exhibit ages related discoloration with oxidation present on metal fittings. Paper on front is torn along the edge of the upper half. PROVENANCE: Norman Olliff Estate.
