SXS SHOTGUN. Cal. 12 Ga. S# 3961. Mfg. approx. 1870's by Karl I Werlik (1813-1889) of Teschen, Silesia, modern day Cieszyn, Poland along the Olza river that borders Czechia. Damascus 29.75" bbls. w/ steel front bead & doll's head extension; gold inlaid "G. WERLIK IN TESCHEN" on rib. Choke measures approx. Full & Mod. Round bodied, back action hammer action w/ sprays of acanthus scroll engraving; sculpted fences. Rebounding hammers are highly sculpted. Top tang has opening lever & sm. oval name plate. Water table has modern Birmingham Nitro proof indicating recent reproof. Checkered walnut forearm w/ Deeley release. Round knob pistol grip buttstock w/ Bavarian style cheekpiece & toeline sling swivel; LOP: 13 3/8" to steel buttplate. CONDITION: barrels have a cleaned gray appearance with peppery oxidation near rib. Receiver has traces of blue finish with balance having gray patina appearance. Wood has good finish with light handling marks & mildew stains. Gunsmith attention needed to forearm; forearm latch will not release, unable to remove forearm. Shiny bores. (01-28493/MD).
