SXS HAMMER SHOTGUN. Cal. 12 Ga. S# 4020. Mfg. approx. 1873. Damascus 29.75" barrels have London black powder proofs; chokes measure cyl. & chambers appear reamed out. The gun rib has maker's address & "1" indicating this was once part of a pair. Round bodied receiver with right side opening lever. Rebounding back hammer locks; left hammer has broken screw head. Action has generous coverage of acanthus scroll engraving. Checkered walnut splinter forearm with Deeley release & metal tip; forearm iron is matching numbered with wood numbered "681701". Checkered walnut stock w/ oval name plate. Stock has added 2" walnut extension to butt having an LOP: 14" to grooved butt. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: hammer screw head. CONDITION: gun appears to have been re-freshened with re-browned barrels & refinished buttstock having re-cut checkering. Barrels have good brown finish with scattered pinprick prior pitting & marks. Bottom rib shows detached face at muzzle. Action has cleaned gray appearance with faded case colors visible on water table. Wood has very good appearance with sm. chips on edges of forearm barrel edges, scattered dings & wear to finish. Bores show pitting & scratches. (01-28488/MD). ANTIQUE. $500-700.
