Lot 2320 BRITI FAIRMAN RETAILED SNIDER'S PATENT ROOK RIFLE.
Cal. .442. NSN. Brown finished Damascus pattern oct. 28" bbl. w/ Birmingham black powder proofs. Bottom of barrel has 20" piece added appearing to be from previous underrib for ramrod. Top of barrel has Fairman London address. Blade front sight & 3 leaf rear sight. Snider's patent action. Lock has sliding safety & floral scroll engraving highlighting a elk in woodland scene. Scroll engraving extends to top tang, pineapple finial, finger curl triggerguard & buttplate peak. Wedge fastened Checkered walnut stock w/ horn nosecap, toeline sling eye, beavertail cheekpiece, German silver wedge escutcheon, & wrist name plate. Triggerguard has worn out S# appearing to be "333". CONDITION: brown finished barrel mixed with brown patina showing light pitting. Wood has good finish with repaired break at forearm 2.5" from tip, checkering is worn at forearm, wear tear drops at wrist, numerous dings & marks. Bore shows strong shallow rifling with pitting & fouling. PROVENANCE: Estate of Groves Herrick. (01-28889/MD). ANTIQUE. $500-700.
