Lot 550 Early Rare British Pattern 1907 Quillion Bayonet and Scabbard
Early Rare British Pattern 1907 Quillion Bayonet and Scabbard, 17'' blade, 22''OAL, smooth hardwood grips. Left side of the ricasso is marked ''(Crown)E.R./1907/10.08/EFD'' and the right side with ''(Broad Arrow)/(three Enfield arsenal inspector stamps)/ X bend mark''. Pommel is unit marked ''MX/R1319'' for the Duke of Cambridge's Own Middlesex Regiment. Condition is good, the blade and other metal parts have been cleaned and there are dark spots and other areas of pitting and patina across the surfaces. Edge has been lightly sharpened. Scabbard body is stamped with a ''(Broad Arrow)'' over crowned inspection stamps and is in good condition. Metal parts show some cleaned pitting. Green cotton frog is in good condition, showing use and wear. Blade slides smoothly into the scabbard. This rare bayonet was produced at the Enfield Arsenal in October 1908 and retains its original hooked quillion. The design was changed to a straight cross guard before World War I and most of the quillions were ground off. Est.: $600-$800.
