German GEW 71/84 Mauser Bolt Action Rifle, #1743, 11mm Mauser cal., 31.5'' barrel, blued/bright finish, hardwood stock, dovetailed inverted-''V'' front sight, and adjustable folding leaf rear sight with ''V''-notches, graduated to 1600 meters. Left side of the receiver is marked ''I.G. Mod. 71/84'' and the right side with ''1888'' production date. Top of the barrel shank is marked ''(Crown)SPANDAU'' and the left side with a ''(Crown)F.W.''. There are crowned inspection stamps on right side of the receiver and barrel; sharp acceptance stamps on the right side and underside of the buttstock. Matching visible numbers. Condition overall is fine. Blued barrel has been cleaned and shows spots of old patina, and a little light pitting, retaining approx. 90% blue. Barrel bands and trigger guard have spots of patina and handling marks; buttplate shows cleaning and patina. Wood has had added finish applied, now in very good condition, with intermittent impressions and handling marks. Action functions well. Bore is bright with very good rifling. Est.: $500-$800.
